Can Viagra Help Treat Early Ejaculation?

Viagra

Viagra – the name alone has become a pop culture catchphrase. When it was first introduced in the late 1990s it took the world by storm and changed the way medications were marketed as well as how men saw themselves in terms of their sex lives. Until Viagra came along, men with problems in the bedroom would sometimes try pills or products found in the back pages of magazines or by talking with friends, but Viagra suddenly made it easier for them to speak to their doctor directly as well as opening the door to a booming male enhancement industry.

From Erectile Dysfunction to Sexual Satisfaction

Viagra was originally developed as a treatment for hypertension and angina pectoris. As it was being tested in the United Kingdom, it became clear that while the drug was not effective with its intended use, it did produce erections and could effective treat chronic impotence. At that time, male sexual health wasn’t discussed as openly as it is today but this simple blue pill was about to change all that. Viagra was repackaged and re-marketed with this new use in mind and has since become one of the most popular pharmaceutical products of all time.

While Viagra made headlines in its effective treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) another condition has remained in the shadows, even though it’s more common. Premature or early ejaculation is thought to affect nearly all men at one time or another and many men deal with the condition on a chronic basis. Premature ejaculation is often associated with times of high stress or anxiety, but it can occur at any point and the stress it brings to a man – and his relationships – can be serious. The problems associated with early ejaculation include high blood pressure, increased anxiety, performance problems and even stomach ulcers and depression.

While this condition is widespread and increasingly common, treatment options remain somewhat limited. This is due, in part, to the wide variety of causes which can trigger the problem. In many cases, changes to diet and exercise can help, but treatment options can also include pharmaceutical intervention. While no single pill has yet been marketed as an effective treatment for early ejaculation, there are some medications which are used off-label to treat the condition. One of the more common medications which is used off label are anti-depressants known as SSRIs, or selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. These have been used with some degree of success which has led doctors to explore other medications which may also work.

Many doctors have found that men suffering with both ED and premature ejaculation have found relief from both with the use of Viagra. Based on this success, doctors now sometimes prescribe Viagra for men who don’t have a history of problems with erections but who do suffer from chronic premature ejaculation. It is sometimes used in concert with SSRIs and sometimes on its own Patients must work with their primary care doctor in order to find the right dosage.

Finding a cure for early ejaculation is difficult, if not impossible. But finding an effective long-term treatment has become increasingly easier thanks to research into various medications. These medications can’t always cure the problem for good, but they are able to effectively treat the condition so that men can regain control of their sex lives and alleviate the problems sexual performance issues can cause. Ultimately, men will most likely need to use a combination of treatments in order to first deal with the immediate problems and then engage in long term treatments such as diet, exercise, therapy or stress relief in order to finally achieve a long term solution.
