Premature Ejaculation and Testosterone Therapy

Testosterone Therapy

Male sexual health has come a long way over the past few years. It wasn’t so long ago that men were well known for never wanting to see a doctor, much less seek out help through specialized clinics. But testosterone therapy has changed all that. Clinics that specialize in this type of therapy find men are receptive and open to it since it delivers fast results and addresses the problem at its core. Generally, the treatment is given for men with low levels of testosterone, a natural side effect of the ageing process. Lowered levels result in a number of sexual performance problems, most notable low libido. While the therapy has proven effective in improving male sex drive, how safe is it for other applications?

Testosterone Therapy – Effect and Side Effects

Men have been receiving testosterone therapy or years but only recently has it become something of a pop-culture phenomena. That’s because businessmen finally realized that marketing direct to men was the best way to make this kind of therapy more readily available and, ultimately, more profitable. Today, testosterone replacement therapy is a booming business with men from every walk of life learning just how effective it can be in restoring their sense of self and their sex life.

Traditionally, hormone replacement therapy has been used to treat low libido or sex drive – one of the biggest concerns for men as they age. But it has also proven effective in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and now many experts are recommending it for premature ejaculation.

Testosterone is an important hormone when it comes to overall male health and, specifically, male sexual health. As levels of this hormone diminish over time, men begin to feel sluggish, lethargic and simply not themselves. Quite often men are happy to chalk a lot of this up to the ageing process but once it begins to affect their sexual performance all that changes.

Using testosterone replacement therapy has proven to be the perfect solution for these men, so it’s no wonder many now wonder if it can help with other issues such as premature ejaculation. The answer is … maybe. Problems with achieving orgasm too quickly can be traced back to a number of root causes other than low testosterone levels. As a result, it’s not possible to guarantee replacement therapy can resolve the problem.

Nevertheless, many men are now flocking to clinics to see if they are eligible for the treatment. In order to qualify men need to do more than simply report their sexual performance problems – they need to get their testosterone levels checked. This is a simple procedure and results are usually back quickly, letting men get on with their treatment as soon as possible if they qualify.

It’s worth considering the side effects of this treatment plan should you consider it for premature ejaculation. Although safe, testosterone hormone therapy is still likely to cause some mild to serious side effects. These include:

  • Increased oiliness in skin
  • Acne breakouts
  • Mild to moderate fluid retention
  • Potential for stimulated prostate – side effects can include increased need to urinate
  • Enlargement to the male breasts
  • Increased risk for blood clots
  • May increase frequency of sleep apnea
  • Mild decrease in size of both testicles
  • Mood swings including increased aggression
  • Changes to cholesterol levels
  • Potentially a decrease in sperm count which can hinder fertility
  • Increased Prostate-specific antigen (PSA)

These side effects should always be considered and, should therapy go forward, they should also be reported to your doctor to ensure no harm is being done. Testosterone therapy for premature ejaculation is still a new area of research and not all clinics will recommend it but for those dealing with the condition on a chronic level, it can offer some relief and hope.
