Treatment Options

THRT – The Acronym That Could Spell the End to Premature Ejaculation

THRT

Today there are several options for treating sexual performance issues, including erectile dysfunction and early ejaculation. Some methods only address the immediate problem and these are known as short-term quick fixes. Other options aim to treat the underlying cause and can take more time to be effective. Needless to say, many men have been frustrated by these options and often use more than one treatment method as a way to deal with the issue without sacrificing their sexual happiness.

Is THRT The Perfect Answer?

Over the past few years, testosterone hormone replacement therapy, or THRT, has become big business when it comes to male enhancement. The process is relatively simple and is actually based on the same hormone replacement therapy treatments used by women once they undergo menopause.

The idea is that a doctor can help to boost hormone levels as they begin to decline. The declining of hormone levels is a natural part of the ageing process but, just like weight lifting and cosmetic surgery, there are those who want to put off certain aspects of ageing for a while.

THRT has become incredibly popular because it works relatively quickly and gives men that feeling of being young and in control again, especially if they have been struggling with early ejaculation. The treatment process is marketed as being all natural and fast acting, but is it safe?

The Side Effects of THRT

The truth is that technically, THRT is a natural option. After all, you’re just replacing your flagging testosterone levels with more of the same hormone. But does that mean it’s a good fit for everyone?

First, a man needs to have his testosterone levels tested. Only men who have lowered levels of the hormone are a good fit for the therapy. Performance issues such as problems achieving or maintaining an erection and premature or early ejaculation may be caused by something other than low-testosterone so it’s important to determine if that is, in fact, a contributing factor.

For men who are eligible, it’s important to understand the possible side effects of the treatment. Generally speaking, the side effects are minor and include pain or swelling at the injection site and issues such as stronger emotional reactions and even skin issues such as oily skin and acne.

Other side effects can happen and while they aren’t as common, they are more serious. A high quality medical team will monitor all new and current patients for these changes but they should also be reported should they occur away from the office. These side effects include:

  • Over-stimulation of prostate tissue resulting in a more frequent and urgent need to urinate
  • Increased risk for prostate cancer
  • Enlargement of chest / breast tissue
  • Increased risk for blood clots
  • Exacerbation of sleep apnea in men already diagnosed with the condition
  • Decreased size of testicles
  • Mood swings and increased aggression
  • Possible increase for risks associated with heart attack and strokes

These side effects should be considered seriously and close monitoring is an important part of the treatment process, especially in the beginning. Other side effects include changes in cholesterol and lipid levels as well as issues in decreased fertility, especially in younger men with low testosterone.

So is THRT for everyone? No. But is it a viable option for men who are dealing with early ejaculation and believe their hormone levels may be playing a part? Absolutely. The key is to consult with a team of medical professionals in order to determine if THRT is right for them and also to ensure the therapy they receive is as safe as it is effective.
